    Mechanical Fuel Control For Gas Turbines

    Woodward produces a wide range of fuel control options from complete mechanical turbine control for aeroderivative turbines to complex five valve electrically actuated fuel systems for today’s most advanced gas turbines.

    Woodward revolutionized gas turbine control decades ago with the “Can Controls”, named for cover that protects the mechanical linkages from contamination. First used in aircraft turbines, these controls have also been applied to marine and land based turbines. These controls mechanically sense inlet temperature, compressor discharge pressure, turbine speed and ambient pressure to determine the proper amount of fuel to provide to the turbine. Through a series of mechanical linkages that resemble a fine watch, the unit is able to control a turbine from start through to a full range of load control to safe shutdown. The advent of the electrical control system resulted in many of these controls being replaced. However, there is still a relatively large fleet in both land and aviation based turbines in operation today.
